Sew In: The Olympic Edition

Room availability meant that we had two Sew Ins this month. How lucky are we! Saturday was another bright and sunny day. Dare I say it felt like Spring? Better not get our hopes up too soon. It is still February after all :)

The Olympics was definitely the talk of the town. All of those Canadian Gold Medals, how could we not talk about it? We cheered while we stitched...

While, bobsleds raced down the track, our machines zoomed along too!

Anja was into some serious scrap busting

Jeanette was working on a custom order twin sized quilt.

Aimee was working on a top secret project. I can only show you this or you will have to go into witness protection

Jenn was heavy into English Paper Piecing in the lounge area

Here is that EPP in it's Olympic inspiration glory

Not sure that this made it in a project, but when I passed it on a table it needed it's picture taken. Those mushrooms are adorable!

Linda was strip piecing selvages. Man she has a lot of those babies. And now I know how to sew them together!

Adrienne worked on her summer tracks quilt and tried some machine applique on a bottled rainbow block.

It was a large sewing day. Next Sew In is scheduled for March 22nd and we are currently searching for a room to sew in, so keep your eyes peeled :)

Sew In - Five More Sleeps

How lucky are we to have two sew-ins in one month?!

Come and sew this Saturday, February 22nd.

Time: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Place: Admiralty Place Party Room, 1 Prince Street, Dartmouth. Plenty of parking on the street around the building.

What to Bring: Your MMQG Member Card, a modern quilting project to work on (or several!) including all your tools and sewing machine if needed, your lunch

There are plenty of tables and chairs in the room, but if you have an extra electrical cord, I say bring it along! There is a small kitchen, so if you need to heat your lunch up, or store in fridge, you will be all set.

Hope to see you there!

Making Plans

This month we did some serious planning about things that we want to do as a Guild this year. I am pretty excited about the plans we have made for promotion and my mind is already spinning about things I want to make to help promote Modern Quilting. We did not have learning Circle this month, but we still had lots of inspiration from Show and Share.

After the QYAG Learning Circle last moth, Aimee went right home and created this Quilt As Yo Go Pillow! Awesome!
Jennifer showed off a "Deer" of a quilt top
Linda wowed us with a Bottled Rainbow quilt and we got some tipson machine applique
Dominique brought in some cross blocks she made for a layout consult. All of those low volume fabrics.. swoon!
Jennifer also brought in an amazing ruler block as part of a skill builder project she is working on. Amazing quilting in this one
Dominique also brought in two pieces of Liberty Fabric, straight from London, for us to touch. Perhaps a highlight of the evening??

Looking forward to our next Sew In, which is coming up next Saturday (February 22nd). Hope to see you there.

Oh and March's meeting - want to learn about Free Motion Quilting? Our very own Scrapmaster- Linda is going to share her particular talent! Don't miss it!

  1. Learning Circle: No demos this time, but we are going to talk about guild promotion, an exciting opportunity for the guild coming in October, and also making a schedule for learning circle on a go forward.
  2. Show and Share: bring your modern sewing project(s) and let us ogle them!
I have to put out there though, if you have a learning circle demo you would like to put on this month, we are open! Just let me know what you would like to do. I know we have some super talented quilters in our midst, it is great to learn from each other.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

Stitches of Productivity

We had our first sew in yesterday and it was kick ass! For me, one of the main reasons to belong to a guild is to sew with like minded quilty / crafty people. You learn so much from sewing together. We talked batting, fabric stashing, why we were making what we were making, what we'd like to make next... we said it all, and got a lot of work done too!

It was a gorgeous sunny day. So we had lots of light and a great harbour view

Jennifer worked a twin quilt which is destined to be a deer.
Anja stip priced a jelly role with great results.

Linda made some amazing scrap triangles
Dominique worked on these great cross blocks
and I (Adrienne) finished off a postage stamps top!

It was a great day all in all and I am looking forward to the next one - February 22nd - mark your calendar!
